Authorizing Mayor Chris Coleman and the Department of Parks and Recreation to apply for and, if awarded, execute contracts and grant agreements for an Xcel Energy Renewable Development Fund Grant for the Lowertown Ballpark Project.
Body
WHEREAS, the Saint Paul City Council and Mayor Chris Coleman are committed to opportunities to make Saint Paul one of the most sustainable cities in the United States; and
WHEREAS, in 2008 the Cities of Saint Paul and Minneapolis received a grant from the U.S. Department of Energy and was declared Solar America Cities; and
WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul is a regional leader in promoting solar energy and has installed ten photovoltaic and three solar thermal projects; and
WHEREAS, Xcel Energy has issued a request for proposals from the Renewable Development Fund for grant funds for renewable energy projects that will increase the market penetration of renewable electric energy in the state at reasonable cost; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation has reviewed the qualifying and ranking criteria and determined that the City of Saint Paul is eligible to submit a proposal to purchase, install, and interpret solar energy projects; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation is interested in submitting a grant proposal to Xcel Energy for a 100 kilowatt solar installation at the new Lowertown Ballpark located in downtown Saint Paul and at the terminus of the Green Line on the Energy Innovation Corridor; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the Department of Parks and Recreation is hereby authorized and directed to submit a proposal for solar installation at the Lowertown Ballpark; and be it
FURTHER RESOLVED, that if the grant is awarded to the City of Saint Paul, the City Council does hereby authorize the proper City officials to execute contracts and grant agreements with Xcel Energy.
