Authorizing the Department of Planning and Economic Development (PED) to accept funds from Weis Construction for PED staff to attend the Best In Real Estate Award Dinner on April 18, 2013.

WHEREAS, the Minneapolis Saint Paul Business Journal annually sponsors an award dinner to recognize the best real estate projects in the Twin Cities area and this year's event will be held on April 18, 2013 at the Radisson Blu Hotel Mall of America ("Award Dinner"); and
WHEREAS, one of the finalists for this year's award is the Penfield Apartments project in Saint Paul, developed by the Housing and Redevelopment Authority of the City of Saint Paul Minnesota, that is presently under construction; and
WHEREAS, this event brings together citizens, developers, business leaders, planners, public officials and other real estate development persons who are dedicated to constructing the highest quality projects; and
WHEREAS, Weis Construction has offered to pay the cost of the tickets to this event for three individuals from PED, namely Cecile Bedor, Al Carlson and Marie Franchett, who all played significant roles in the development of the Penfield Project, with a per person cost of $125.00; and
WHEREAS, there is a public purpose in having City staff attend this event insofar as the staff will be able to discuss and share with development persons the best practices surrounding real estate development and bring those ideas to their daily work experiences to benefit the City of Saint Paul and its citizens, and this Resolution complies with Section 41.03 of the City's Administrative Code;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City of Saint Paul's City Council that:
1. Upon the recommendation of the Mayor, the City of Saint Paul accepts the gift of Weis Construction of the cost of three tickets to the Award Dinner and directs that
the tickets be given to Cecile Bedor, Al Carlson and Marie Franchett.
