Authorizing the Department of Parks and Recreation, Como Park Zoo and Conservatory, to accept the gift of travel and expenses, not to exceed $1,500, from the Aquatic Animal Life Support Operators (AALSO) for staff member E. J. Smith to travel to the Aquatic Animal Life Support Operators Symposium in San Francisco, California from March 24-27, 2013.

WHEREAS, the AALSO Symposium has convened a nationwide meeting and has invited Como Park Zoo and Conservatory's Life Support Operator, E. J. Smith, to participate; and
WHEREAS, the AALSO has offered to pay for the flight, hotel and registration fee for E. J. Smith to participate in the Symposium; and
WHEREAS, the Symposium covers various topics ranging from new innovations in the life support equipment and procedures to rebuilding older quipment, including discussions with life support colleagues and equipment manufacturers; and
WHEREAS, the Symposium offers hands-on demonstrations and workshops for training purposes allowing for E. J. Smith to test his knowledge and be able to advance his certification level which will greatly benefit Como Zoo with animal life support operations; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council accepts the gift of travel and expenses, not to exceed $1,500.00, for E. J. Smith to attend the AALSO Symposium in San Francisco, California from March 24-27, 2013 and thanks the Aquatic Animal Life Support Operators for its generous gift.
