Authorizing the Parks and Recreation Department to apply for, and if awarded, accept a grant in the amount of $10,000 from the metropolitan area agency on aging for the exploratory study toward comprehensive communities for a lifetime planning framework.
 
Body
WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul strives to be The Most Livable City for all ages of citizens; and
WHEREAS, demographic studies show that the Twin Cities are home to a growing older-adult population; and
WHEREAS, the Saint Paul Mayor's Advisory Committee on Aging (ACOA) works to identify needs of seniors, advocates on issues that impact seniors, and works to improve inter-generational opportunities in the city; and
WHEREAS, the concept of Communities for a Lifetime embraces all age groups and allows people to "age in place" by offering physical, social and service features for residents of all ages; and
WHEREAS, preparing for a dramatically older demographic shift and its social and financial impacts, requires planning priority that builds on a shared vision with Saint Paul residents, business community and all stakeholders; and
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Saint Paul Mayor's Advisory Committee on Aging may apply for and, if awarded, the Saint Paul Parks and Recreation 50+ Program may accept a grant from the Metropolitan Area Agency on Aging in the amount of $10,000 on behalf of the ACOA to begin an exploratory study toward a comprehensive Communities for a Lifetime planning framework.
