Authorizing the Police Department to accept the donations from the Saint Paul Police Foundation, totaling $19,327.54, as granted to be used in the gang unit, for the 'Cops & Kid's and chaplain programs, and to purchase building security equipment, and to amend the department's special fund 2012 budget for these donations.

Body
WHEREAS, the Saint Paul Police Foundation was formed in 2005 to help the Saint Paul Police Department (SPPD) in many ways including insuring that public safety for our citizens remains the number one priority for our city; and

WHEREAS, the Saint Paul Police Foundation board of directors has approved the granting/donation of $19,327.54 to the SPPD, and

WHEREAS, the SPPD would like to accept the donation; and

WHEREAS, the public purpose served is that $3,550 of the donation will be used by SPPD's Gang Unit funding supplies to hold community meetings to reach at risk children. Some of the cost incurred in order to hold these meetings would include transportation for families, child care, catered food from Saint Paul businesses and paper supplies; and

WHEREAS, the public purpose served is that $2,250 will be used in the Cops & Kids program purchasing Christmas gifts for the children at Gillette and United hospitals, and

WHEREAS, the public purpose served will be to cover $193.90 in expenses related to the Saint Paul Police Chaplain Program, and

WHEREAS, the public purpose served will be to increase safety at the Saint Paul Police Department's headquarters building by installing security equipment including card reader access systems and camera monitoring equipment, $13,333.64 donated from the 100 Club through the Saint Paul Police Foundation, and

WHEREAS, the 2012 financing and spending plan needs to be amended for these funds; and

WHEREAS, the Mayor pursuant to Section 10.07.1 of the Charter of the City of Saint Paul, does certify that there are available for appropriation funds of $19,328 in excess of those estim...
