Authorizing the Police Department to donate seized alcoholic spirits to the Little Sisters of the Poor, to be used for their residents on special occasions.
Body
WHEREAS, the Saint Paul Police Department receives or takes into its possession alcoholic beverages on a periodic basis; and
WHEREAS, the department cannot auction or utilize these beverages; and
WHEREAS, the Little Sisters of the Poor, a charitable organization in the City of Saint Paul that offers a continuum of care from independent living through skilled care to the needy elderly of the Twin Cities, has asked the department to donate these spirits for use of their residents when they have special occasions; and
WHEREAS, the Little Sisters have agreed that the alcohol will only be consumed by residents of the Hold Family facility and will not, be sold or given away; and
WHEREAS, the public purpose and the Saint Paul Police Department's desire is to assist this organization as they care for the elderly poor in our community; and
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul Police Department is allowed to donate alcoholic beverages to the Little Sisters of the Poor on an annual basis not to exceed $10,000.
