Authorizing the Police Department to accept the donation of a 2000 Honda Civic from the National Insurance Crime Bureau to assist the department's property crimes unit.
Body
WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul, Police Department has received a donation of a 2000 Honda Civic with an estimated value of $2,500 from the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB); and
WHEREAS, the vehicle will be used primarily as a 'bait car' in the property crimes unit, and
WHEREAS, the NICB is requesting the city to enter into the attached Vehicle Donation Agreement which includes an indemnification clause; and
WHEREAS, the public purpose of this donation is to assist police department property crimes unit in auto theft prevention investigation, apprehension and prosecution activities; and
BE IT RESOLVED, that the council accepts this donation and the vehicle 'as is', and authorizes the City of Saint Paul to enter into and Chief Thomas E. Smith to implement the attached agreement which includes an indemnification clause and extends its sincere thanks to the NICB.
