Authorizing the Department of Parks and Recreation to apply for Minnesota State Arts Board Grant Funds to engage artists for Recreation Center programs.

WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation is requesting permission to apply for up to $150,000 in grant funds from the Minnesota State Arts Board Arts Learning program for the purpose of partnering with local arts organizations to bring professional artists in as workshop instructors for recreation center youth programs,  
 
WHEREAS, the goals for the grant are as follows: Dramatically expand the number and quality of community-based out-of-school time arts learning opportunities available to St. Paul youth in grades K-12; Address cost and transportation barriers to high quality arts opportunities by offering free learning opportunities at neighborhood recreation centers across the city; Engage 1,560 youth, most of color and from low-income communities, in high quality arts learning experiences; and Support the City of Saint Paul's framework for youth success by providing opportunities for youth to become learners and contributors in the arts, now, therefore,  
 
BE IT RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council authorizes the Department of Parks and Recreation to apply for these funds from the Minnesota State Arts Board.
