Authorizing the acceptance of an education grant from the Saint Paul Foundation's Education Impact Fund and amending the 2012 budget in the amount of $5,000.

Body
WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul is committed to improving the educational opportunities of all children and youth in Saint Paul; and

WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul is committed to promoting and supporting a variety of educational initiatives including the Saint Paul Promise Neighborhood, Sprockets out-of-school-time network, and the Saint Paul Public Schools strategic plan; and

WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul received $5,000 from the St. Paul Foundation's Education Impact Fund to enable city staff and others to participate in a two-day seminar to provide a shared understanding of the racial equity framework being used by the Saint Paul Public Schools as a key element of its strategic plan; and

WHEREAS, this seminar will be led by the Pacific Educational Group, a nationally recognized firm that works with school districts and community partners to develop shared racial equity understanding; and

WHEREAS, this seminar will bring together city, county and school district managers and staff as well as staff leading Sprockets and Promise Neighborhood so that they begin to develop a common set of values, strategies and perspectives through which to understand and approach issues of racial equity in their work with youth; and

WHEREAS, the Mayor pursuant to Section 10.07.1 of the Charter of the City of Saint Paul, does certify that there are available for appropriation funds of $5,000 in excess of those estimated in the 2012 budget; and

WHEREAS, the Mayor recommends that changes be made to the 2012 adopted budget as indicated in the attached financial analysis; now therefore be it

RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Saint Paul hereby approves accepting the St. Paul Foundation grant to support the costs of the two-day seminar for consultant fee, room and hospitality charges; and be...
