Title
Authorizing the Police Department to accept the Auto Theft Prevention grant amendment from the State of Minnesota, Department of Commerce in the amount of $262,311.40 and to amend the 2012 special fund budget for this grant amendment.
 
Body
WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul, Police Department has received an amendment to the Auto Theft Prevention grant (RES 11-2453, Attachment A) which was awarded in round two of the grant application from the State of Minnesota through its Commissioner of Commerce; and
 
WHEREAS, the state awarded an additional $262,311.40 providing funds to support the police department in its efforts to reduce motor vehicle theft including training of LPR operators, monitoring of salvage locations for compliance with state statutes and city ordinances and conduct special police details in areas experiencing an increased number of auto thefts; and
 
WHEREAS, the 2012 financing and spending plan for this grant needs to be amended; and
 
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that council accepts this grant amendment and authorizes the City of Saint Paul to enter into, and Chief Thomas Smith to implement the attached amendment with the State of Minnesota; and
 
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council approves these changes to the 2012 budget.
