Purpose of Appeal
My mom's house was condemned and I do not disagree that it should be. It is in pretty bad shape and probably needs at least the electrical and plumbing brought up to code. The problem is my mom has just been diagnosed with Alzheimer's and dementia and now resides in Ebenezer Care Center, which is a nursing home. She does not have the funds to pay $1100 now that it is a vacant building. We have applied for medical assistance to pay for the nursing home and are waiting for that to be processed. It is my understanding that all of her money but $92 a month needs to go to pay for her nursing home. So, I am not sure how to pay this $1100 bill.

WHEREAS, in the matter of Appeal of Ann Garavalia, on behalf of Angela Marquette, to a Vacant Building Registration Notice at 1128 FOREST STREET, the Legislative Hearing Officer has reviewed the appeal and considered the testimony of City staff and the appellant; and
WHEREAS, the Legislative Hearing Officer recommends that the City Council deny the appeal and waive the vacant building fee for 90 days; Now, Therefore, Be It
RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council hereby accepts and adopts the Legislative Hearing Officer's recommendation in this matter.
