Title
Authorizing the Police Department to accept the Juvenile Accountability Block Grant - Special Projects 2012 grant in the amount of $57,200 with a $6,356 match requirement from State of Minnesota, Department of Public Safety for the juvenile program and to amend the 2012 budget.
 
Body
WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul, Police Department has been awarded the Juvenile Accountability Block Grant - Special Projects 2012 (Attachment A) by the State of Minnesota, Department of Public Safety; and
 
WHEREAS, this grant provides funds to enhance the knowledge base of the criminal justice system and positive alternatives to delinquency available to youth in the efforts to reduce the number of youth introduced into the criminal justice system and improve trust and rapport between police and youth; and
 
WHEREAS, the 2012 financing and spending plan needs to be amended for these funds; and
 
WHEREAS, the Mayor pursuant to Section 10.07.1 of the Charter of the City of Saint Paul, does certify that there are available for appropriation funds of $57,200 in excess of those estimated in the 2012 budget; and
 
WHEREAS, the Mayor recommends that the following addition be made to the 2012 budget as attached, and
 
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that council accepts this grant and authorizes the City of Saint Paul to enter into, and Chief Thomas Smith to implement the attached agreement with the State of Minnesota which includes an indemnification clause; and
 
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council approves these changes to the 2012 budget.
