Authorizing the Department of Parks and Recreation to accept donations for the Trees Saint Paul program.
Body
WHEREAS, Saint Paul Parks and Recreation, through its Forestry section, manages Saint Paul's urban tree canopy; and
WHEREAS, due to storms, disease, and general old-age there is a need to reforest Saint Paul's public lands and right of ways on an ongoing basis; and
WHEREAS, Trees Saint Paul is a program that provides educational information and opportunities for residents, organizations and local businesses to assist financially in planting and re-planting activities throughout the city; and
WHEREAS, Parks and Recreation's Trees Saint Paul program has received the following donations in 2011:
$2500 - St. Paul North Ramsey 500 Lions
$500 - Garden Club of Ramsey County
$1000 - National Children's Study - U of M
WHEREAS, Parks and Recreation wishes to accept these donations and use the funds to replant trees and promote tree education throughout the city;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council hereby authorizes the Department of Parks and Recreation to accept these donations for the Trees Saint Paul program, and thanks the St. Paul North Ramsey 500 Lions, Garden Club of Ramsey County and National Children's Study - U of M for their generous gifts.
