WHEREAS, Americans for the Arts is hosting a national conference in San Diego, California on June 16 - 18, 2011, and
 
WHEREAS, Joe Spencer, Mayor Chris Coleman's Arts and Culture Director for the City of Saint Paul, has been invited to represent the City of Saint Paul; and
 
WHEREAS, this conference is attended by officials across the country doing similar work in order to learn and share innovative programs and best practices; and
 
WHEREAS, Springboard for the Arts, with funding from the Doris Duke Charitable Trust has offered to pay expenses incurred by attending this conference; and
 
WHEREAS, this opportunity is a result of the Arts Innovation Lab that was funded by the Doris Duke Charitable Trust in January of 2011, and the development of new grant opportunities for Saint Paul; and
 
WHEREAS, Joe Spencer's attendance at this conference will serve a public purpose in allowing him to meet with other people in his field to discuss policies and programs around leveraging Saint Paul's creative communities for economic vitality; now, therefore be it
 
RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council on behalf of the citizens of Saint Paul, accepts the gift of conference registration, lodging, and travel for the Americans for the Arts Conference and appropriates it to the intended use for Joe Spencer to attend the conference, and thanks Springboard for the Arts for their generous gifts.
