Body

WHEREAS, The City of Saint Paul has been awarded with grant funding in the amount of $2,000,000 from U.S. Department of Agriculture - Forest Service Urban and Community Forestry (UCF) Program; and

WHEREAS, Parks and Recreation wishes to accept these funds for the continuation and expansion of the forestry training and jobs program, increased long-term urban forestry and natural resource planning and assessment, and opportunities to protect, enhance and expand equitable urban tree canopy cover in disadvantaged communities; and

WHEREAS, grant funds would allow the Department of Parks and Recreation to increase and enhance existing efforts to successfully manage Saint Paul’s aging urban tree canopy; and

WHEREAS, the match requirement has been waived under the provision of Public Law 117-169 (Inflation Reduction Act) and based on assurance that 100% of the work and funding will benefit disadvantaged communities; and

WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation wishes to accept said grant funds and amend the financing and spending plan in the 2024 Grant Fund; and

WHEREAS, the Mayor, pursuant to Section 10.07.1 of the Charter of the City of Saint Paul, does certify that there are available for appropriation, funds of $2,000,000 in excess of those estimated in the 2024 Budget; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Saint Paul, that $2,000,000 is available for appropriation in the 2024 budget, and said 2024 budget, as heretofore adopted by the Council, is hereby further amended as indicated on the attached financial analysis; and, be it
