Approving the name Midway Peace Park for City-owned parkland along Bigelow Avenue between Griggs Street North and Dunlap Street North.

WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul owns property along Bigelow Avenue between Griggs Street N. and Dunlap Street N.; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation is developing a new park at this site; and
WHEREAS, the new park requires an officially recognized name that can be posted on identity signage and used on City maps and location reference materials; and
WHEREAS, the Trust for Public Land has worked in close collaboration with the Department of Parks and Recreation to establish a new park south of University Avenue on Griggs Street N.; and
WHEREAS, the Trust for Public Land has led a thorough process for public outreach and community engagement with respect to naming the park, with input and guidance from the Department of Parks and Recreation, Union Park District Council, and Lexington Hamline Community Council, which started in January 2016; and
WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul, Parks and Recreation Commission Policy #7, Naming Parks and Recreation Sites, 2012 Update, provides criteria for naming of parks, and this recommendation complies with the spirit of the policy; and
WHEREAS, the Saint Paul Parks and Recreation Commission endorsed the proposal to officially name the park Midway Peace Park at its March 8, 2018 meeting; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul Parks hereby authorizes the Department of Parks and Recreation to name the new park "Midway Peace Park".
