Authorizing the Department of Planning and Economic Development (PED) to accept a donation from PED staff for travel costs related to attending the 2018 Getting to Zero National Forum.

Body

WHEREAS, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) advances the science and engineering of energy efficiency, sustainable transportation, and renewable power technologies and provides the knowledge to integrate and optimize energy systems; and

WHEREAS, NREL is a sponsor of the 2018 Getting to Zero National Forum where topics related to zero energy buildings were discussed, including advances in construction technology, implementation of zero energy policies, and examples of successful nationwide projects; and

WHEREAS, the New Buildings Institute is a nonprofit organization working to improve the energy performance of commercial buildings and the Rocky Mountain Institute is a nonprofit organization working to advance energy technology to create a clean, prosperous, and secure low-carbon future; and

WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul is participating in a nation-wide accelerator program sponsored by the United States Department of Energy to help advance innovative site-wide energy solutions; and

WHEREAS, a workshop focused on projects in the accelerator program occurred as part of the 2018 Getting to Zero Forum; and

WHEREAS, the public purpose of participation in this event is to acquire information that will inform the implementation of sustainability goals at the Ford Site and share project information with others; and

WHEREAS, a representative from Saint Paul Department of Planning and Economic Development was given an honorarium of $550 (five hundred and fifty dollars) to cover travel costs, to be paid directly by NREL to the participant; and

WHEREAS, PED staff chose to give the money to the City of Saint Paul through PED according to its policy; and
