Proclaiming March 12, 2016 as Bernadette Celene Benner Day in the City of Saint Paul.

WHEREAS, On March 8, 1946, Bernadette Celene Benner was born to her parents Cornelius William Benner at Ruth Oden Benner, the fifth of seven children; and
WHEREAS, Bernadette was born and raised in the City of Saint Paul living most of her life in the Rondo/Summit University neighborhood; and
WHEREAS, Bernadette attended St. Peter Claver Catholic School, graduating from Central High School class of 1963, then attending San Franciso State University; and
WHEREAS, Upon her matriculation from San Franciso State University, Bernadette returned to the Twin Cities earning a Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Minnesota; and
WHEREAS, Upon returning to her native home and community, Bernadette Benner busily involved herself professionally in matters of criminal justice, social work, foster care, emergency social service and most recently an adjunct professor at Metro State in the field of social work; and
WHEREAS, Thirty eight years to present day Bernadette has consistently lovingly dedicated her life’s work to the families and children of multiple communities; and
WHEREAS, Bernadette has received numerous awards and adulation for her dedication; now therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That Saturday, March 12, 2016 be proclaimed Bernadette Celene Benner Day in the great City of Saint Paul.
