Expressing deep appreciation for the Capital Hill Magnet School’s LEGO Wizards for their civic engagement and initiative in raising funds for a universally accessible playground at Victoria Park. (To be withdrawn)

WHEREAS, the LEGO Wizards are a group of 5th and 6th graders at Capital Hill Magnet School who began their second season of LEGO League with a challenge to find something in their community that could use improvement and benefit a lot of people; and
WHEREAS, they wanted to design an accessible park so that kids of all abilities, the elderly, and everyone in between could make full use of the park, no matter the season; and
WHEREAS, through conversations with city planners and other city employees they learned about plans for the Victoria Park Universally Accessible Play Area and decided their time would be better spent making someone’s dream a reality; and
WHEREAS, they started a Go Fund Me fundraiser with a goal of raising funds and awareness about the Play Area; and
WHEREAS, they have done outreach throughout the school community gathering support for the park; and
WHEREAS, they have gained valuable experience working with city officials in a professional setting; and
WHEREAS, their project idea helped them advance to the state tournament after competing in the First LEGO League regional tournament; and
WHEREAS, at their tournaments, they were recognized by judges for their passion for the project, their teamwork, and their robotics programming and design skills; and
WHEREAS, the LEGO Wizards are going to continue their work despite the end of the season because it is so important to them; and
WHEREAS, they have raised over $600 so far and are working with other community groups to promote the park and their fundraiser through social media and other means; now, therefore, be it
