Accepting an educational grant of $130,000 from The Traveler Foundation to support the Mayor's educational and out-of-school time initiatives known as Sprockets and the Saint Paul Promise Neighborhood.

WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul (the "City") is committed to improving the educational opportunities of all children and youth in Saint Paul; and
WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul is committed to promoting and supporting a variety of educational initiatives including the Sprockets out-of-school-time network and the Saint Paul Promise Neighborhood; and
WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul received $130,000 from Traveler Foundation to enable staff to support these two initiatives and their annual objectives, which are: 1) To improve the quality of youth work in out-of-school-time by helping implement a professional development and training program; 2) To establish metrics to measure academic and social/emotional development among youth participating in out-of-school-time learning; 3)To raise private funds to support Promise Neighborhood and Sprockets activities; 4) To help develop a shared data system that can be used by the Saint Paul Public Schools, Sprockets out-of-school-time network and Promise Neighborhood and other educational partners; and 5) To help implement the Promise Neighborhood initiative, securing initial financial support, building partnerships and finding ways to engage City departments such as libraries and parks in the Promise Neighborhood effort; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Saint Paul accepts the Travelers Foundation grant to support staff work on Saint Paul educational initiatives including Sprockets out-of-school-time network and the Saint Paul Promise Neighborhood, and authorizes the appropriate city officials to execute any necessary grant agreements.
