Authorizing the Police Department (SPPD) to accept the DWI/Traffic Safety Officer grants from the Minnesota Department of Public Safety and to amend the 2024 Grant Fund budget for these awards.

WHEREAS, the SPPD received approval to apply for the Minnesota Department of Public Safety’s DWI/Traffic Safety Officer grants (RES 24-887, RES 24-1032) and has been awarded two grants totaling $300,000 for the term October 1, 2024 through September 30, 2025; and
WHEREAS, this grant provides funds for the salary, overtime, and benefits for officers who perform and accomplish the activities as prescribed in the grant to support the National Highway Traffic Safety Programs including prevention of injuries and deaths, increase driver awareness and improvement of driver performance; and
WHEREAS, this grant includes no match requirement, but a request to report matching funds, which can be fulfilled through regularly budgeted funds related to the grant-funded activities; and
WHEREAS, the 2024 financing and spending plan needs to be amended and activity budget added for these funds; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor, pursuant to Section 10.07.1 of the Charter of the City of Saint Paul, does certify that there are available for appropriation of funds of $150,000 in excess of those estimated in the 2024 grant budget; now
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, the city council accepts these grants and approves the changes to the 2024 budget.
