Recognizing Friday, January 23, 2026, as a Day of Truth and Freedom.

WHEREAS, Saint Paul is grounded in values of dignity, fairness, community, and respect for the rule of law; and
WHEREAS, recent federal immigration enforcement actions have had profound effects on families and communities across our state, creating fear, disruption, and uncertainty for many Minnesotans; and
WHEREAS, these circumstances have made it difficult for many residents to carry on daily life as usual, particularly for workers, students, families, and small businesses; and
WHEREAS, Minnesotans have a long-standing tradition of engaging in peaceful, non-violent civic participation and moral reflection during moments of significant social concern; and
WHEREAS, a broad coalition of labor organizations, faith communities, community-based organizations, students, workers, and small businesses has called for a statewide Day of Truth and Freedom as a voluntary opportunity for reflection, solidarity, and peaceful expression; and
WHEREAS, participants in this day are exercising their constitutional rights through non-violent action, often at personal or economic sacrifice, in order to express concern for the well-being of their communities; and
WHEREAS, Minnesota’s faith leaders and community leaders have affirmed their shared commitment to peace, safety, and the restoration of trust within our neighborhoods;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the Saint Paul City Council proclaim Friday, January 23, 2026, as a Day of Truth and Freedom in Saint Paul.
