Authorizing the Department of Parks and Recreation to apply for funds of up to $20,000 from the Capital Region Watershed District’s Partner Grants program for the BIPOC Parks Ambassadors program.
Body
WHEREAS, the Capitol Region Watershed District Partner Grants support organizations who share in CRWD’s mission to protect, manage and improve our water resources; and
WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul is committed to a sustainable future, including cleaner air, soil, water and other natural resources; and
WHEREAS, the City supports, and will continue to support, collaboration with the Capital Region Watershed District and other agencies and groups to provide resources for increasing water quality, and for providing a cleaner environment throughout the city; and
WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul is eligible to receive up to $20,000 in grant funds for eligible clean water projects, including education programs and materials, organizing projects, workshops, events, or clean water landscaping projects; and
WHEREAS, it is the intention of the Department of Parks and Recreation to submit a proposal for up to $20,000 for its BIPOC Parks Ambassadors program to engage BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People of Color) who are also youth, adults, and/or families from underserved communities, in water quality education programming; and
WHEREAS, the Parks Ambassadors program will focus on connecting BIPOC folks to nature, educating them about water quality, and empowering them with actions they can take to protect and/or improve water quality; and
WHEREAS, the required grant match will be met by in-kind staff time and van transportation already designated for the project; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, by the Council of the City of Saint Paul, that support is hereby granted for the Department of Parks and Recreation’s application to the Capitol Region Watershed District’s Partner Grants Program for the BIPOC Parks Ambassadors program.
