Authorizing the Como Park Zoo and Conservatory to accept funding for two representatives to attend a symposium on fostering empathy within the zoo and aquarium setting, to be held in Seattle Washington from January 22-25, 2019.

 

Body

WHEREAS, Como Park Zoo and Conservatory Education is at the forefront of efforts to foster empathy in Zoos and other informal learning environments; and

 

WHEREAS,  the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle,Washington, will host a symposium on fostering empathy in zoo and aquarium environments from January 22-25, 2019; and

 

WHEREAS,  the Woodland Park Zoo, through an anonymous donor, has offered to pay lodging, meals, and transportation costs for two Como Park Zoo and Conservatory employees to attend the symposium; and

 

WHEREAS, attendance at the symposium will allow the Como Park Zoo and Conservatory Education Department to advance its  understanding of the role and value of empathy in zoo and aquarium experiences and better understand their ethical commitment to animal welfare; now therefore, be it

 

RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council accepts the gift of travel expenses for two Como Park Zoo and Conservatory Education Department employees to attend the symposium of fostering empathy at the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle Washington and thanks Woodland Park Zoo for the generous gift.
