Authorizing the Police Department to accept the donation from the Saint Paul Police Foundation in the amount of $35,000 and amending the 2026 grant budget and adding activity budget.
Body
WHEREAS, the Saint Paul Police Foundation was formed in 2005 to support the Saint Paul Police Department (SPPD) by enabling public-private partnerships that support officer wellness, training and community outreach, ensuring that public safety remains a high priority; and
WHEREAS, the Saint Paul Police Foundation Grants Committee reviewed the SPPD request to support tuition assistance for officer candidates and has unanimously supported with a donation of $35,000 which does not include any match requirement; and
WHEREAS, the funded initiative supports the tuition assistance for officer candidates recognizing the critical importance of recruiting, developing and retaining high-quality candidates who are committed to a career in law enforcement and the SPPD; and
WHEREAS, the 2026 financing and spending plans need to be amended, and activity budget added for these funds; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor, pursuant to Section 10.07.1 of the Charter of the City of Saint Paul, does certify that there are available for appropriation funds of $35,000 in excess of those estimated in the 2026 budget; and
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Saint Paul, upon recommendation of the Mayor to accept the donation from the Saint Paul Police Foundation and approves these changes to the 2026 budget as amended on the attached financial analysis.
