Authorizing the City on behalf of the Police Department (SPPD) to accept a grant from the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) 2024 program.

WHEREAS, the SPPD received approval to apply for a 2024 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) in RES 24-1434, and has been awarded $236,761 for the grant term through September 30, 2027; and

 

WHEREAS, this grant will be used to cover costs of overtime for SPPD personnel for community engagement and efforts to reduce serious crimes; and

 

WHEREAS, there is no matching fund requirement with this award; and

 

WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul, serving as the fiscal agent for this award, will share the grant funds with one disparate jurisdiction, Ramsey County, and the jurisdiction’s allocation will be used for activities and projects that will provide meaningful and measureable outcomes consistent with the goals of the grant; and

 

WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul will be entering into an Interlocal Agreement with Ramsey County for the purposes of the sub-granting of these funds; and

 

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that council accepts this grant and authorizes the SPPD to enter into and implement the attached agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice; and an Interlocal Agreement with Ramsey County as substantially set forth in the attached documents.
