Title

Authorizing Police Department to accept a grant in the amount of $750,000 from the U.S. Department of Justice for the 2019 Local Law Enforcement Crime Gun Intelligence Center Integration Initiative grant.

 

Body

WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul, Police Department (SPPD) has been awarded the 2019 Local Law Enforcement Crime Gun Intelligence Center Integration Initiative grant from the U.S. Department of Justice; and

 

WHEREAS, this grant provides funding to address illegal firearm-related crime and forensics initiatives that furthers local law enforcement’s ability to respond to violent crime, and working with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) to utilize intelligence, technology and community engagement to swiftly identify crime guns, their sources and effectively prosecute perpetrators; and

 

WHEREAS, the grant funds will expand SPPD’s capacity to participate in the Twin Cities Crime Gun Intelligence Center (CGIC), a multi-agency collaborative managed by the ATF, Saint Paul Division; and

 

WHEREAS, the funding is for $750,000 with a term from October 1, 2019 to September 30, 2022; and

 

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council accepts this grant, and authorizes the City of Saint Paul to enter into, and Assistant Chief Robert Thomasser to implement the attached agreement with the U.S Department of Justice.
