Title

Authorizing the City Attorney’s Office to accept a grant of $279,534 from The Office of Justice Programs of the US Department of Justice and the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, and authorizing the execution of a grant agreement.

Body

WHEREAS, The Office of Justice Programs of the US Department of Justice and the Minnesota Department of Public Safety (collectively “Grantors”), granted $279,534.00 ($139,767 for 2019-2020 and $139,767 for 2020-2021) to the Saint Paul City Attorney’s Office, through the Crime Victim Services program, for the purpose of providing services to crime victims: and

WHEREAS, the spending plans for these monies include hiring two victim-witness specialists (one full-time and one part-time) to implement outreach to underserved populations, and provide direct services and support to victims going through the criminal court process; and  

WHEREAS, the Saint Paul City Council find a public purpose to expend the above-referenced monies because such expenditure(s) will expand services to historically underserved victims of domestic violence, including elderly and vulnerable adults; 

NOW, THERFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Saint Paul City Council, as follows:

The Saint Paul City Council accepts the above-referenced grant award and authorizes the proper City officials to execute a grant agreement that contains provision(s) wherein the City provides certain levels of indemnity to Grantors.
