Accepting a grant awarded by the United States Department of Justice - Office of Justice Programs in the sum of $250,000.00 for the purpose of enhancing the City's outdoor warning siren system and controls.

WHEREAS, the City's Department of Emergency Management submitted a grant application to the United States Department of Justice - Office of Justice Programs for financial assistance to replace the City's aging outdoor warning siren system and controls; and
WHEREAS, the City's present outdoor warning siren system was installed in 1950 and replacement parts to maintain and operate the siren system for the protection of the public are no longer available, and
WHEREAS, on September 10, 2009 the Department of Justice notified the City's Department of Emergency Management that the grant application for the project was approved for the period of July 1, 2009 through June 30, 2012, subject to certain terms and conditions which are attached hereto and incorporated herein by reference, and that the United States Congress has appropriated the sum of $250,000.00 for the said project period under the Department of Justice Appropriations Act of 2009, Pub. L. 111-8, Div. B, Title II; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Saint Paul hereby accepts from the Department of Justice - Office of Justice Programs a grant in the sum of $250,000.00 fro the purpose of enhancing the City's outdoor warning siren system and controls, subject to the terms and conditions required under the program as set forth in the said attachments, and
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED, that the City Council hereby authorizes the Department of Emergency Management Director Rick Larkin to enter into and undertake the implementation of the grant project with the Department of Justice on behalf of the City of Saint Paul.
