Accepting the gift of travel and expenses from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, for Parks and Recreation staff member Faith Krogstad to travel to the Workshop for Community Advocates and Grassroots Leaders, September 25-27, 2017 in Ithaca, NY.

WHEREAS, the Cornell Lab of Ornithology seeks to engage group leaders and community advocates working with underserved communities in learning about citizen science, community engagement through the arts, birdwatching; and greening programs at the Cornell Lab, and is holding a Workshop for Community Advocates and Grassroots Leaders from September 25 to 27, 2017 in Ithaca, NY; and
WHEREAS, beginning in 2016 the City of Saint Paul was recognized by Audubon Minnesota as a Bird City of Minnesota for engaging and educating residents, protecting and restoring bird habitat, and reducing threats to birds; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreations environmental education program engages underrepresented audiences in numerous environmental programs and events, including the celebration of International Migratory Bird Day and the Urban Birding Festival of the Twin Cities; and
WHEREAS, the Cornell Lab of Ornithology has awarded a full reimbursable scholarship to Faith Krogstad to cover travel, lodging, meals, and the cost of the Workshop for Community Advocates and Grassroots Leaders; and
WHEREAS, the opportunity to attend the workshop will allow Faith Krogstad to use the knowledge and information in the City's programs;now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the City Council accepts the scholarship and thanks the Cornell Lab of Ornithology for its generous gift.
