Authorizing the Saint Paul Public Library to apply for the Minnesota Historic and Cultural Heritage Grant from the Minnesota Historical Society to repair the roof at the Riverview Library, for which SPPL will provide $66,000 in matching funds.

WHEREAS, the Saint Paul Public Library would like to apply to the Minnesota Historic and Cultural Heritage Grant from the Minnesota Historical Society with revenue from the Clean Water, Land and Legacy Amendment, which will support the repair and restoration of the roof at the historic Riverview Library; and
WHEREAS, the Saint Paul Public Library is currently engaged in efforts to revitalize and renew three of its locations through its Transforming Libraries project; and
WHEREAS, Riverview Library is one of the three locations supported by the Transforming Libraries project, and
WHEREAS, if received, the grant amount would be $256,000 with a grant term of December 1, 2024 - June 1, 2026; and
WHEREAS, the grant does not include a matching requirement but states that a proposed match will be to the applicant’s advantage, SPPL has proposed $66,000 in matching funds, and the source for these funds is the library’s Capital Projects fund; and
WHEREAS, the grant requires that the property owner, The Saint Paul Public Library, be the lead applicant; and
WHEREAS, the City certifies that it will comply with all applicable laws and regulations as stated in the grant agreement; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council authorize the Saint Paul Public Library to apply for the Minnesota Historic and Cultural Heritage Grant to restore the roof at the historic Riverview Library.
