Authorizing the Department of Emergency Management to apply for an annual Urban Area Security Initiative grant from Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)

WHEREAS, the Department of Emergency Management is responsible for the maintenance and administration of a comprehensive emergency management and homeland security program within the City; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Emergency Management requests permission to apply for and if awarded, accept the annual Urban Area Security Initiative grant from Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA); and
WHEREAS, grant funds would allow the Department of Emergency Management to enhance regional preparedness and capabilities to prevent, prepare for, protect against and respond to acts of terrorism; and
WHEREAS, there is no match amount required of these funds by the City; now therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council hereby authorizes the Director of Emergency Management to apply for, and if approved, accept said grant and utilize funds as approved for the project herein.
