Authorizing the Public Library to enter into grant agreements with the Minnesota Department of Education (which include indemnification language).
Body
WHEREAS, the State of Minnesota, acting through its Commissioner of the Department of Education (the “State”), has awarded two $500,000 grants (the “Grants”) to the City of Saint Paul (the “City”) through the Saint Paul Public Library Agency (“SPPL”) to support the reconstruction of the Hamline Midway and Hayden Heights Libraries, respectively; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Resolution Public Hearing 25-255, the City Council accepted the Grants;
WHEREAS, the agreements (the “Grant Agreements”) allocating the Grants from the State to SPPL include indemnification language in favor of the State;
WHEREAS, the City Council finds that the reconstruction of the Hamline Midway Library and renovation of the Hayden Heights Library have legitimate public purpose in providing high quality library and community services to City residents; and
WHEREAS, the expenditure of public funds, which includes the promise of indemnification and defense, will facilitate that public purpose; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED that the City Council authorizes the City to enter into the Grant Agreements.
