Accepting the gift of the costs of travel expenses from University of Minnesota for Innovation Manager Matt Larson to attend and serve on a panel at the 2019 Smart Cities Connect Conference to be held in Denver, Colorado April 1 - 3, 2019.

WHEREAS, University of Minnesota has invited a representative from the City of Saint Paul to attend the 2019 Smart Cities Connect Conference, a conference on accelerating the adoption of smart technology solutions, aiding in problem solving, and amplifying city resources for the betterment of cities, communities, and their citizens, on April 1 - 3, 2019; and
WHEREAS, Saint Paul joined the MetroLab Network, a city and University collaborative for Civic Innovation launched as part of the White House Smart Cities Initiative in 2015 to drive partnerships between local governments and universities, poised to help the public sector adapt to rapid change; and
WHEREAS, at the 2019 Smart Cities Connect Conference, Matt Larson will have the opportunity to serve on a panel in partnership with University of Minnesota researchers and learn/gain new insights on building University partnerships that help to solve city challenges; and
WHEREAS, the University of Minnesota has offered to pay for Matt Larson's travel and lodging at the 2019 workshop; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Saint Paul find that attendance at the conference will be beneficial to the City through continued collaboration, learning and development that enables Saint Paul to benefit from the University’s technical expertise and creativity in addressing the city’s challenges; now therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the City Council accepts the gift of travel and lodging for Matt Larson to attend the 2019 Smart Cities Connect Conference, and thanks University of Minnesota for its generous gift.
