Authorizing the Department of Parks and Recreation to apply for a grant from the Minnesota Association for Volunteer Administration.

WHEREAS, The Minnesota Association for Volunteer Administration (MAVA) is a Minnesota non-profit, 501(c)(3), organization whose mission is to inspire excellence in the leadership of volunteers to impact communities; and
WHEREAS, MAVA has received $52,000 from the Bush Foundation to convene conversations with partners, cities, volunteer managers, volunteers and citizens interested in building new strategies to engage a diverse citizenry in community problems, and to develop strategies and curriculum to train cities throughout Minnesota to increase citizen volunteerism in problem solving and public service; and
WHEREAS, through an existing partnership with MAVA, the Department of Parks and Recreation was extended an opportunity to submit a grant proposal; and
WHEREAS, receipt of a grant would include $2,000 in funding to enhance the Saint Paul Natural Resources volunteer program, participation in a cohort of city volunteer managers and MAVA and Bush Foundation administrators, up to four hours of consulting time from MAVA, and the opportunity to become a visible example for other Minnesota cities; and
WHEREAS, receipt of a grant would allow the City to enhance the Saint Paul Natural Resources volunteer program, providing support and resources for current volunteers and tools to engage new volunteers; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation requests permission to apply for $2,000 in funding from MAVA to support volunteer programs serving residents; regional individuals; and corporate, nonprofit and civic partners who complete restoration, conservation, beautification and educational projects in Saint Paul regional parks; now, therefore, be it
