Establishing Sunday, April 24th, 2022 as Zahoua Xiong and See Yang Day in Saint Paul.

Whereas, Zahoua S. Xiong was born in Laos in 1961 to Mr. and Mrs. Kia Sue Xiong, and See Yang was born in Laos in 1966 to Commander Tong Kai Yang and Mrs. Tong Kai Yang.
Whereas, Zahoua Xiong and See Yang married in 1981 in Laos, and
Whereas, Zahoua and See fled Laos due to the Vietnam War in 1984 and lived in the Thailand refugee camps with their two children until 1987, and
Whereas in 1987, Zahoua, See and their family emigrated to the United States of America and lived in St. Paul, MN, where Zahoua graduated from Central High School and St. Paul Technical College with a degree in Graphic Art Design, while See worked full time, and
Whereas, Zahoua has been a leader in the Hmong community in St. Paul, learning the Hmong cultural roles to help weddings such as Mej Koob, and conduct funerals such as Kav Xwm and has volunteered numerous hours to help families, and
Whereas, in 2003 Zahoua and See petitioned for his uncles and their families in Laos to come to the U.S.A: Mr. Chong Bee Xiong, his wife and eight children, Mr. Xia Vue Xiong, his wife and four children have now resettled in St. Paul, MN and all of them have become U.S.A. citizens and
Whereas, Zahoua and See have served in leadership roles in a variety of organizations from President of Xiong Siv Yij from 2000 - 2008 and as Vice President of Xiong United National, Inc in 2010, and
Whereas, Zahoua, See and their eight children are involved in the Hmong cultural events, civic engagement such as volunteering to drive people to the polls, volunteering on numerous campaigns, translating for Hmong elders, and sharing the importance of being involved in community, and
Therefore Now Be It Resolved, that the Saint Paul City Council recognize that Zahoua Xiong and See Yang are great role models for the community, and
