Title

Authorizing the Department of Parks and Recreation to accept grant funding in the amount of $70,469.50 from Green Cities Accord to support Saint Paul’s tree planting program.

Body

WHEREAS, the City Council of Saint Paul previously authorized the Department of Parks and Recreation to apply for the Carbon Offset Grant; and

 

WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation has been awarded with grant funding in the amount of $70,469.50 from Green Cities Accord; and

 

WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation wishes to accept these funds to support the continuation and expansion of the City’s tree planting program; and 

 

WHEREAS, grant funds would allow the Department of Parks and Recreation to increase and enhance existing efforts to successfully manage Saint Paul’s aging urban tree canopy; and

 

WHEREAS, there are no match requirements for this grant funding; and

 

WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation wishes to accept said grant funds and amend the financing and spending plan in the 2026 Grant Fund; and

 

WHEREAS, the Mayor, pursuant to Section 10.07.1 of the Charter of the City of Saint Paul, does certify that there are available for appropriation, funds of $70,469.50 in excess of those estimated in the 2026 Budget; now, therefore, be it

 

RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Saint Paul, that $70,469.50 is available for appropriation in the 2026 budget, and said 2026 budget, as heretofore adopted by the Council, is hereby further amended as indicated on the attached financial analysis; and, be it

 

FURTHER RESOLVED, that Council accepts the grant funding and authorizes the appropriate City officials to enter into an agreement with Green Cities Accord for the aforementioned funding.
