Authorizing the Department of Parks and Recreation to apply for $175,000 through the Metropolitan Council’s new Green Infrastructure Pilot Grant program to construct a green roof at the new Scheffer Community Center.

 

Body

 

WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation is proposing to submit an application to the Metropolitan Council Green Infrastructure Pilot Grant funding program to construct a green roof at the new Scheffer Recreation Center; and

 

WHEREAS, the grant is available to public agencies within the Metropolitan area; and

 

WHEREAS, the grant requires a 1:1 match which will be met by existing CIB funds already designated for the project; and

 

WHEREAS, the grant funds will provide funding to construct a green roof on the new Scheffer Recreation Center, making it more compatible with the City’s Sustainable Building Policy, enhancing sustainability efforts, and minimizing water and energy use; and

 

WHEREAS, if funds are granted, the City of Saint Paul agrees to comply with the requirements of said grant, which include entering into a grant agreement to accept and implement said funds, which may include an indemnification clause; and

 

WHEREAS, the City Council finds that there is a public purpose in minimizing the environmental impact of new buildings and that acceptance of the grant funding will enable the installation of a green roof; now, therefore, be it

 

RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Saint Paul hereby authorizes submission of the application for possible award of funds through the Metropolitan Council grant program; and, be it

 

FURTHER RESOLVED, if project funds are awarded, that the Mayor and proper City officials are hereby authorized to execute agreements with the Metropolitan Council, which may include an indemnification clause, to accept and implement said grant funds.
