Authorizing the Department of Parks and Recreation to apply for, and if awarded, enter into a grant agreement with the Saint Paul Foundation to accept $75,000 in grant funds.
Body
WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation is requesting permission to apply for $75,000 in grant funds from the Saint Paul Foundation to support an expansion of its youth employment efforts; and
WHEREAS, the grant funds would support work that fosters a common language around essential non-cognitive (or "human achievement") skills among youth, employment providers, out-of-school time partners, and school district staff; and
WHEREAS, the grant funds would help the Parks and Recreation Department develop innovative training and support mechanisms to ensure that these work internships for youth are high quality educational experiences while engaging the business community in the City and School District's work to prepare all high school students for college and career success; and
WHEREAS, the grant funds would help the Parks and Recreation Department create community-based, hands-on learning experiences that align with and support the School District's career and technical education program goals; and,
WHEREAS, the grant contract with the Saint Paul Foundation would require indemnification of the Saint Paul Foundation, the Board, its agents, and employees from any and all claims or causes of action arising from or relating in any way to the grant activities; and
WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Saint Paul finds that the expenditure of funds, which includes a promise of indemnification, for the purpose of receiving the grant and achieving these goals has a public purpose; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Saint Paul authorizes the Parks and Recreation Department to apply for and if awarded enter into the grant agreement with the Saint Paul Foundation to accept $75,000 in grant funds.
