Authorizing the Department of Parks and Recreation to accept a grant award in the amount of $25,000 from the Vikings Children's Fund Summer Lunch Program, and amending the financing and spending budgets in the Recreation Grant activity to reflect this additional funding which will be used to support and expand the 2012 summer meals programs at City's recreation centers and Roaming Recreation sites.
Body
WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation has been involved with the Summer Food Service Program for over 20 years; and
WHEREAS, the Summer Food Service Program provides federally funded meals to feed hungry children throughout Saint Paul at the City's recreation centers and Roaming Recreation sites; and
WHEREAS, Parks and Recreation served over 74,000 meals to children in Saint Paul in the summer of 2011, and has a goal of serving 85,000 in 2012; and
WHEREAS, Parks and Recreation has been approved to receive a $25,000 grant from the Vikings Children's Fund Summer Lunch Program to support, strengthen and expand the Summer Food Service Program in 2012; and
WHEREAS, Parks and Recreation wishes to increase its revenue and spending budgets by $25,000 in the Recreation Grants Activity, to accurately reflect this additional funding, as well as update the 2012 spending budget for additional service and supply purchases that will be used to enhance the Summer Blast Program; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor, pursuant to Section 10.07.1 of the Charter of the City of Saint Paul, does certify that there are available for appropriation funds of $25,000 in excess of those estimated in the 2012 Grants and Aid Budget; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council authorizes the Department of Parks and Recreation to accept the grant from the Vikings Children Fund Summer Lunch Program; and be it further
