Authorizing the Office of Financial Empowerment to apply for and accept a $20,000 grant from the Cities for Financial Empowerment Fund for the Financial Empowerment Cities Expert Mentor Program.
Body
WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul (the "City") has established an Office of Financial Empowerment (the "Office") within the Office of Financial Services; and
WHEREAS, the Office is dedicated to improving the financial stability of low- and moderate-income households by embedding financial empowerment strategies into local government infrastructure; and
WHEREAS, the Cities for Financial Empowerment Fund (the "CFE Fund") works to support municipal engagement to improve financial stability through partnerships with local governments and initiatives such as the Financial Empowerment Cities Expert Mentor Program; and
WHEREAS, the CFE Fund has selected the City to participate in the Financial Empowerment Cities Expert Mentor Program to provide technical assistance to nine municipalities planning and launching their own Offices of Financial Empowerment; and
WHEREAS, the CFE Fund has pledged to provide a grant in the amount of $20,000 to support the City's participation in this initiative; and
WHEREAS, the objectives of the Financial Empowerment Cities Expert Mentor Program align with the mission and goals of the Office of Financial Empowerment to empower residents and support financial stability as it will provide the Office an opportunity to connect with other cities doing similar work; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor, pursuant to Section 10.07.1 of the Charter of the City of Saint Paul, does certify that there are available for appropriation funds of $20,000 in excess of those dedicated to the Office of Financial Empowerment in 2025; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, the City Council hereby:
1. Applies for and accepts the $20,000 grant from the Cities for Financial Empowerment Fund to support its participation in the Financial Empowerment Cities Expert Mentor Program
