Body
WHEREAS, in 1960, Donovan Schwichtenberg began his career as an educator in the Minneapolis school district; and,
WHEREAS, Donovan was appointed President of St. Paul Technical College in 1990; and,
WHEREAS, under his leadership, tenacity, and vision, Donovan established a Center for Teaching and Learning, renovated the medical technology classroom and laboratories, converted courses and programs from a quarter to semester system, and was granted the authority by the state to expand the school's mission to include a transfer function with other colleges in the state; and
WHEREAS, in 2001, the school was granted the authority to offer the Associate in Arts degree and expand its liberal arts and sciences programming, and in 2002, the school's name was changed to St. Paul College to reflect its expanded mission and purpose as it became the first Minnesota institution to evolve from a technical college to a technical and community college; and
WHEREAS, in 2006, Dr. Schwichtenberg launched the Power of YOU in collaboration with the St. Paul and Minneapolis Public School Districts, to build a program that guaranteed up to three years of tuition-free, lower-division college for urban high school graduates; he also obtained accreditation for all the school's online programs; and
WHEREAS, in 2008, he established the St. Paul Career Pathways Academy, a high school on campus, with learning opportunities in health sciences, construction trades, engineering and manufacturing, and business computer technology; and
WHEREAS, in 2009, St. Paul College was awarded a ten-year accreditation of its business programs by the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs, affirming the academic quality of the school's business programs; and
WHEREAS, in 2010, the school was recognized by Washington Monthly Magazine as the #1 community college in America; and
