Accepting the gift of $1,000 from Ujamma Place for the June 19, 2020 Juneteenth Celebration Donation.

WHEREAS, Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. From its Galveston, Texas origin in 1865, the observance of June 19th as the African American Emancipation Day has spread across the United States and beyond.
WHERAS, the City of Saint Paul in partnership with Ujamaa Place, an organization that serves our young African American men in Saint Paul, will hold a virtual community Juneteenth commemoration of heritage and culture featuring Mayor Melvin Carter III, African American community leaders, local artists and Arts Us youth cultural drummers on Friday, June 19, 2020.
WHERAS, Ujamma Place wishes to donate $1,000 worth of services to the City of Saint Paul to assist with project management, production, editing and social media for the event.
WHEREAS, this donation and the virtual Juneteenth celebration aligns with the City’s people-centered, equity driven values and our goal of creating a city for all.
BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council authorizes the City to accept the $1,000 donation from Ujamma Place.
