Authorizing the City Attorney's Office to pursue an available funding opportunity offered by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety-Office of Justice Programs.

WHEREAS, the Minnesota Department of Public Safety - Office of Justice Programs has released a request for proposals for Justice Assistance Grants (JAG) for criminal justice intervention projects that seek to improve public safety by supporting intervention activities for adults or juveniles who have had initial involvement and/or activities that will reduce further involvement in the criminal and juvenile justice systems, and
WHEREAS, the deadline for applications under this request for proposals is May 28, 2019, and
WHEREAS, a two-year grant of $100,000 - 200,000 will be awarded to the recipient of the JAG and there is no match requirement, and
WHEREAS, the St. Paul City Attorney’s Office, Criminal Division is in the process of building and implementing innovative initiatives focused on addressing the needs of the St. Paul community through alternatives to traditional prosecution, such as the Neighborhood Justice Program, and require funding to make them possible, and
WHEREAS, we recognize that the initiatives the City Attorney’s Office is advancing greatly benefit the citizens of the City of St. Paul and plays an integral role in the criminal justice system, and
WHEREAS, the St. Paul City Attorney’s Office, Criminal Division wishes to pursue the available funding opportunity offered by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety by applying for the JAG,
THEREFORE, be it resolved that the St. Paul City Council authorizes the St. Paul City Attorney, Lyndsey M. Olson, and her designees to apply for funding.
