Amending the 2014 budget in the Public Works Right of Way Maintenance fund by $1,948,791 to reflect additional winter maintenance costs, street repairs, one-sided parking ban, and Kellogg Street bridge restrictions.
Body
WHEREAS, In the first part of 2014 there were extraordinary costs associated with winter maintenance, which included additional snow and ice events that required additional time and crews for plowing and salting. As a result of the early icing events, there was a significant amount of potholes on City streets than in prior years that required repair, and
WHEREAS, Lane restrictions were required on the Kellogg Street Bridge to divert traffic flows for repairs, and
WHEREAS, The City of St. Paul implemented its first one-sided parking ban, and
WHEREAS, In order to ensure that there is proper spending authority for the winter season at the end of 2014, a budget amendment of $1,948,791 is needed in the Right of Way Maintenance Company to assist with the costs of these events and the costs of the upcoming winter season; and
WHEREAS, this additional budget funding of $1,948,791 would be covered by the use of fund balance, and
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED; that the Council of the City of Saint Paul does hereby approve the 2014 budget increase in the Right of Way Maintenance Company.
