Authorizing expenditures for food and refreshments at the City and County Black History Month final event on February 28, 2020 at City Hall.

WHEREAS, February 2020 is recognized as Black History Month; and
WHEREAS, Black History is our United States history. In 2020, the City of Saint Paul recognizes the dire need for accurate portrayals of the influential contributions made from Black communities; in our schools, our literature, in our production of knowledge, and in our own chamber walls; and
WHEREAS, the Saint Paul City Council encourages all residents to join in recognizing the contributions and achievements of the extraordinary individuals whose work toward emancipation, justice and civil rights will encourage future generations in Saint Paul; and
WHEREAS, the Saint Paul City Council finds a public purpose for providing food and refreshments at this event. Providing food and refreshment will encourage attendance at the event. Improved attendance increases the number of public servants that ultimately consume presentation materials, thereby equipping said increased number of public servants with knowledge that improves their service to the community; now therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul Office of Financial Services is hereby authorized to expend an amount not to exceed $1,000.00, the Saint Paul Office of Human Rights and Equal Economic Opportunity is hereby authorized to spend an amount not to exceed $500.00, and the Saint Paul Office of the Mayor is hereby authorized to spend an amount not to exceed $500.00 for the purpose of providing food and beverages for the February 28th final Black History Month event at City Hall, Room 40 A&B from 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM.
