Recognizing Ann Schmidt and Virginia Kratt for their efforts to bring the first North Dale Playground to the North Dale Community in the early 1950s.

WHEREAS, Ann Schmidt and Virginia Kratt, two neighbors and friends, both mothers raising young children back in the 1950s; and
WHEREAS, Ann Schmidt and Virginia Kratt recognized a need in the North Dale Community for a safe place for not only their children but the rest of the neighborhood children to play, other than playing in the streets like they were doing; and
WHEREAS, new houses were springing up all around the local school and church, The Maternity of Mary, located at 1414 Dale Street North at the corner of Dale and Arlington, yet no neighborhood playground existed; and
WHEREAS, through hard work and perseverance advocating on behalf of the North Dale Community in coordination with the City of Saint Paul's Parks and Recreation Division, as well as in actively petitioning the local community, Ann Schmidt and Virginia Kratt proved instrumental in the establishment of the first North Dale Playground in the early 1950s;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council recognizes Ann Schmidt and Virginia Kratt, posthumously, for their civic initiative on behalf of the North Dale community;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that members of the North Dale Community express their sincere gratitude for the efforts of Ann Schmidt and Virginia Kratt in the historic establishment of the North Dale Playground and subsequently for the modern 21st century facility, the North Dale Community Center, that the North End community continues to enjoy.
