Title

Amending the financing and spending plans in the Department of Parks and Recreation in the amount of $3,101,886 to reflect funding received from Como Friends and Lancer Hospitality for Como’s Seal and Sea Lion Habitat Asset Preservation project.

 

Body

 

WHEREAS, Como Park Zoo and Conservatory is a statewide asset that provides educational experiences to all Minnesotans across the state and that Seals and Sea Lions play a major role as conservation ambassadors; and

 

WHEREAS, Como Friends is the non-profit partner of Como Park Zoo and Conservatory and has reinvested more than $35 million in projects and programs since 1999; and

 

WHEREAS, Como Friends commits an increase of $1,716,820 towards the project for a total of $4,486,000; and

 

WHEREAS, Lancer Hospitality has been a valued partner for Como Park Zoo and Conservatory providing food service, catering and operation of Como Town; and

 

WHEREAS, Lancer Hospitality will provide $1,385,066 to build a new food service building on Como Zoo grounds to replace the former Zooper building that will need to relocate due to construction; and

 

WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation wishes to thank Como Friends and the Lancer for their continued support for allowing Como Park Zoo and Conservatory to accomplish their mission to inspire the public to value the presence of living things in our lives; and

 

WHEREAS, the Mayor, pursuant to Section 10.07.01 of the Charter of the City of Saint Paul, does certify that there are available for appropriation, funds of $3,101,886 in excess of those estimated in the 2018 budget; now, therefore, be it

 

RESOLVED, by the Saint Paul City Council, upon recommendation of the Mayor, that the 2018 Capital Projects Budget, as heretofore adopted by the Council, is hereby further amended in the particulars as specified in the attached financial analysis.
