Approving the Mayor’s reappointment of Missy Staples Thompson to a five-year a term on Saint Paul Public Housing Agency.
Body
WHEREAS, the Saint Paul Public Housing Agency is formed to help families and individuals with low incomes achieve greater stability and self-reliance by providing safe, affordable, quality housing, and links to community services; and
WHEREAS, The Public Housing Agency owns and manages almost 4,300 units of low-income housing; and
WHEREAS, Public Housing Agency is funded through a combination of tenant fees, Federal funding from HUD, and several State and Local programs; and
WHEREAS, The Public Housing Agency of the City of Saint Paul is a public body corporate and politic organized under Minnesota Statute, Section 469.003 and Minnesota Session Laws, Chapter 228 (1977). The terms of PHA appointments are governed by that enabling legislation; and
WHEREAS, The Public Housing Agency of the City of St. Paul (PHA) is comprised of a seven-member Board of Commissioners; and
WHEREAS, Section 1 Chapter 228 - H.F. No. 542 of the Enabling Legislation for the Public Housing Agency of the City of Saint Paul states that “Commissioners shall be appointed by the mayor with the advice and consent of the City Council;” and
WHEREAS, the City Council approved the appointment by Mayor Chris Coleman of Missy Staples Thompson to the Saint Paul Public Housing Agency on August 19, 2015 (RES 15-1500) and her term expires on September 01, 2020.
WHEREAS, Missy Staples Thompson has applied for consideration for reappointment as a Public Housing Agency Board Member and has been recommended for reappointment by John M. Gutzman Executive Director of the Public Housing Agency and Tom Reading PHA Board of Commissioners Chair; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Carter wishes to reappoint Missy Staples Thompson to the Public Housing Agency; now, therefore be it
