Authorizing the Police Department to apply to the FY 2027 Violence Against Women Act Special Projects Grants Program from the Minnesota Department of Public Safety.
Body
WHEREAS, Chapter 10 of the Saint Paul City Charter recognizes the City Council’s authority over the budget and spending of the City of Saint Paul; and
WHEREAS, Chapter 86 of the Saint Paul Administrative Code requires all contracts be authorized by the Saint Paul City Council; and
WHEREAS, Section 86.12 of the Saint Paul Administrative Code requires City Council approval prior to submission of grant applications; and
WHEREAS, the Minnesota Department of Public Safety has invited proposals for grants from the FY 2027 Violence Against Women Act Special Projects Grants Program; and
WHEREAS, the average grant is expected to be approximately $300,000 with a grant term of up to 36 months, and would be used to acquire equipment that can more effectively document evidence of abuse; and
WHEREAS, there is a no matching funds requirement, and the SPPD is partnering with the Saint Paul & Ramsey County Domestic Abuse Intervention Project (SPIP) on the proposed project; and
WHEREAS, the Grants Division of the Office of Financial Services has reviewed and approved the Intent to Apply request; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council authorizes the Police Department to apply for the grants from the FY 2027 Violence Against Women Act Special Projects Grants Program
